16 Year Old Program
As with any driver, before being able to drive, a 16 year old must first obtain a learners permit issued by the New Jersey DMV. If you need help studying for the written permit test, we have over 170 free sample questions and answers on our site. By law, the 16 year old learners permit may only be obtained through a NJ State certified driving school. This is done in one of two ways. The first way is the student will take the test in school (the test is given following the 30 hour classroom course. ot all New Jersey schools offer this program), and if they pass, they will simply go with the driving school of their choice to the DMV to get the permit (the high school is not authorized to issue the actual permit). The second method of obtaining a New Jersey permit for a 16 year old is in a situation where the student has not taken the written permit test in school (or did not pass the exam given in school). In such an instance, they would need to go take the written permit test at the New Jersey DMV (MVC), and they too may only go with a NJ state certified driving school. The NJ written permit test consists of 50 multiple choice questions. The student must get 40 out of 50 correct in order to pass. Please see our NJ DMV (MVC) sample written permit test. When going to the DMV to obtain a permit, the student should bring the following:
6 points of state approved ID such as an original birth certificate from vital statistics, or passport and social security card or at least the number itself should be brought along when obtaining the actual permit at the DMV. For a complete checklist for the 6 points of ID, please visit the NJ DMV website at www.njmvc.gov. If the student has passed the exam at school, "they must" bring what is called the waiver card/blue score card. This is the card issued by the high school which states that the student has passed the written test at school and therefore does not need to take the written test again by the DMV. An application card "for the actual permit" will be given to you by the driving school. Last, the student should bring $10 for the permit itself, and contacts or glasses (the NJ DMV does an eye exam) should also be brought along to the DMV
6 Hours Behind the Wheel
After obtaining the permit, the student will receive 6 hours of behind the wheel training (required by law).
Ask about our special discounted rates for the 16 year old program. The driver training program is done in one of our school vehicles,
all of which are equipped with a dual brake system. The 6 hours are full hours.
Upon completion of the program, we offer a certificate of completion for the 6 hour behind the wheel program. This certificate
is provided upon request and is free of charge. The certificate is actually available to anyone who has completed the 6 hours,
regardless of age. Often, our certification will help lower your auto insurance rates by a significant amount
After finishing the 16 year old program, the learners permit is brought back to the DMV to validate. We will do that for you so you do not have to wait in any lines. At that time, the DMV will assign the student a road test date. When you are ready to take your road test, we offer a road test service which provides you with transportation to the road test in the vehicle in which you had been given lessons. In addition, you may want to take advantage of our road test preparation lesson which is typically given within a few days of the actual road test. Please feel free to give us a call to arrange receipt of a gift certificate for your child, grandchild or friend.
Our services are all door to door. This means that we will pick you up and drop you off at home, school, or office.
